Eden Church was founded in 1868 by immigrants from the Evangelical Church in Germany.
The Evangelical Church is a Protestant denomination with a mixture of both Lutheran and
Reformed backgrounds. This congregation is proudly Protestant, holding to the doctrines of
the Protestant faith:
Sola Scriptura: Scripture is the highest and final authority for the church and Christian life.
Sola Fide: We are justified by faith alone, not by works.
Sola Gratia: Salvation is by grace alone, God's unearned favor.
Solus Christus: Christ alone is the mediator and basis of salvation.
Soli Deo Gloria: All of salvation and life are for God's glory alone.
Our beliefs are summed up in the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the confessional
documents of the Evangelical and Reformed church. To that end, Eden church has been
working to deepen those historical Protestant beliefs through expositional Biblical teaching,
catechism, and consistent instruction.
Our church holds to a doctrinal confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and a
belief in the triune God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Church Membership is for those
who make a public profession of said faith.
We do believe in the practice of infant baptism, and the confirmation process to disciple
young people to faith and active membership in the church. Eden Church also understands
the Holy Spirit works in the heart of people at different times and in different ways, so we are
also open to the baptism of believing, professing people, whether children or adults. We also
recognize that pouring, sprinkling, and immersion are acceptable ways to administer the
sacrament of baptism.
The sacrament of Holy Communion is meant for Christians alone, but Eden Church practices
open communion, inviting professing Christians from all denominations to examine
themselves and to receive the holy sacrament.
